Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 3, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how NixWallet handles information when you use the NixWallet browser extension and related website pages. NixWallet is designed as a self-custodial wallet and does not run a centralized backend that stores wallet profiles or private keys.
1. Information We Collect
NixWallet does not collect personal information on our own servers.
The extension stores wallet data locally in your browser storage to provide core functionality, including:
- Encrypted vault data and wallet configuration
- Account metadata, selected address, and network preferences
- Custom token metadata and local address book entries
- Local activity history and UI settings (for example auto-lock timeout)
- Connected dApp permission metadata such as origin, connected account, active chain, and timestamps
2. How We Use Information
Local data is used only to operate wallet features such as account management, transaction preparation, confidential token operations, connected-site permissions, activity history, and session security.
NixWallet does not use local wallet data for advertising, profiling, or unrelated analytics.
3. Blockchain and Network Requests
To function as a wallet, NixWallet sends JSON-RPC requests and transaction data to blockchain infrastructure and related cryptographic services. These requests may include wallet addresses, transaction payloads, and technical metadata required to process on-chain actions.
Third-party RPC/API providers may receive your IP address and request metadata under their own privacy terms. NixWallet does not sell this information and does not run ad tracking.
4. Chrome Permissions
NixWallet requests Chrome extension permissions only for wallet operation:
- storage: persist encrypted local wallet and settings
- sidePanel: render wallet UI in Chrome Side Panel and attempt to open NixWallet for sensitive dApp requests
- host permissions (
<all_urls>): allow the extension’s content script to run on pages where dApps needwindow.ethereum, and allow the background worker to proxy JSON-RPC to your configured network - Manifest content scripts: load a small bridge on each matched page (no
chrome.scriptingAPI); the injected page script talks to the extension viapostMessage
5. Data Sharing and Sale
NixWallet does not sell personal data.
NixWallet does not transfer user data to data brokers or advertisers.
Data may be disclosed only when legally required (for example, valid legal process) or to protect users and comply with applicable law.
6. Data Retention and Deletion
Because wallet data is stored locally, you control retention.
You can remove extension data by clearing wallet data in the extension, uninstalling the extension, or clearing browser extension storage.
On-chain transaction data cannot be deleted because blockchains are public ledgers.
7. Security
NixWallet uses client-side encryption for vault storage and includes auto-lock controls. No security measure is perfect; you are responsible for safeguarding your device, password, private keys, and recovery phrase.
8. Children's Privacy
NixWallet is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required by local law), and we do not knowingly collect children's personal information.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be published on this page with a revised "Last updated" date.
